Inter-Canyon Fire Department Evacuation Checklist

The following should only be done if time allows you to remain on site. Responding firefighters will tell you how much time you have.

____ Park cars headed out driveway, windows up, keys in ignition
____ Wear protective clothing - sturdy shoes, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, gloves, bandanna
____ Close all windows and all doors throughout the house - do not lock them
____ Close all metal blinds or heavy drapes on windows
____ Remove all light, flammable curtains
____ Move furniture away from all windows
____ Shut all gas pilot lights
____ Shut off propane or natural gas
____ Turn on all outside lights
____ Seal all attic and ground vents (use duct tape or plywood)
____ Put all combustible patio furniture, toys, etc. in garage or house
____ Connect all available hose with nozzles to water spigots
____Place a ladder near the garden hose to access the roof
____Fill all available containers outside with water
____Remove shrubs within 30' of the home
____Move all firewood 30' away from home
____Disconnect automatic garage door openers and close garage door (do not lock)
____Open the fireplace damper and close screen over the front
____ Hitch camp or boat trailers to vehicle or put in garage
